Job Summary
The Production Lead reports directly to the Production Supervisor and is responsible for supervising production employees during assigned shifts. As a frontline leader within the organization, this role oversees daily production operations, monitors product yields, and implements necessary adjustments to ensure production capacity goals are consistently met.
This position is responsible for ensuring all safety regulations and FDA compliance standards are maintained throughout every stage of the manufacturing process, playing a critical role in upholding product quality, operational compliance, and company standards.
The Production Lead supervises team members to ensure production objectives are achieved within established timelines while meeting quality and cost expectations. This role is responsible for training, directing, coaching, and leading production employees in day-to-day operations to support production, safety, and quality requirements.
Additionally, the Production Lead communicates production goals, objectives, and performance results effectively to motivate the team, maintain high product quality standards, and maximize overall plant efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Performs daily walks and visual inspections of the Production floor in observation of unsafe acts or conditions; takes immediate corrective action where necessary.
- Maintains safety/environmental self-audits & visual checks.
- Champions all safety and ergonomic activities for the department and helps to develop and meet plant safety goals.
- Maintain desired product quality and safety. Ensure all staff and employees know and understand the Food Safety plan and the Food Quality plan.
- Adherence to HACCP, FDA regulations, and SQF audit requirements.
- Inspects product to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustment to machines.
- Trains employees to ensure safe operating procedures are followed, including lockout/tag out.
- Coordinates production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Provide supervision of assigned employees in scheduling and daily activities, ensuring effective selection, retention, feedback, disciplinary action and performance management.
- Ensures all required PPE is being used in the production areas.
- Adheres to product specification requirements throughout the manufacturing process to maintain the desired product quality.
- Maintains adequate knowledge of products and equipment to ensure the ability to direct employees to perform the job properly.
- Maintains or exceeds goals on yields and efficiencies.
- Works with Operations and Plant Manager to maintain knowledge of yields and variances, methods of calculations, typical problem areas and methodology for corrections and improvement.
- Suggests changes in the workflow process and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the department and production to maintain the lowest level of downtime, waste, and product costs.
- Traces and analyzes key product measures for improvement opportunities.
- Familiarity with GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices)
Qualifications
- Preferred 5 years Production Lead experience in a Manufacturing environment, preferably food manufacturing industry.
- Preferred 5 years of Manufacturing.
- Experience in leading and following Safety/Security policies and procedures.
- Ability to follow all Sanitation and Quality policies and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
Education
- High school diploma or GED
